What's your background?
Over the years I’ve dipped my toes in a few different areas before settling on Real Estate. I explored fashion design, graphic design, photography, and accounting before running my own nail aesthetician business for years. It’s awesome how things work out. Everything I’ve done up until this point has offered me some skill or tidbit of knowledge that I’ve been able to use in my Real Estate career over the past 18 years.
As we sold our first house and bought what has now been our home for almost 20 years, I became interested in the Real Estate business. In the early years, I actually continued to run the nail business out of my house for my closest clients which helped keep me in touch with them and ultimately expand my network during that time. Since then I’ve been focused solely on Real Estate and remain grateful for all the steps that led me to where I am today. It’s amazing how things work out… whatever’s meant to be.
Why Kingston?
It’s my home and I know it very well. I’ve seen it grow and know that it’s a great place to live, raise a family, and start a business.
I also love the history attached to the city. Many people are aware of the long term history and I don’t deny that it’s fascinating but I’m drawn to the more recent past; the last half-century or so. A few generations of my family have lived in Kingston and the stories that have been passed down are really incredible. I’ve always said that I wish I was a better writer so I could write a book filled with everything that’s been passed down in our family. It’s a city with an extremely rich and dynamic story that I feel very connected to.
Why Real Estate?
It has given me the opportunity to meet people that I otherwise would not have had the chance to meet. I’ve met people from around the world, who have come from many different walks of life and am thankful for the perspectives I’ve gained and the experiences they’ve shared with me. I’m an outgoing person, I love asking questions and working with others. While Real Estate deals with the sale of real property, it’s very much about people.
I enjoy how it’s ever-changing. It keeps me on my toes and I’m never bored. I’m constantly challenged and offered the space to grow
Lastly, being financially secure is important. I’m not saying that money is my main motivator, but any agent who says they aren’t “in it for the money” isn’t being entirely truthful. Being able to contribute and provide for my family is something that I value. It motivates me to work even harder for my clients. Real Estate is a lot of work, and hard work at that (a lot of it behind the scenes that most people don’t see). I love doing it because of how dynamic it is and the chance I have to help people in their own stories, but I also appreciate the fact that it allows me to make a living.
I’m a competitive person and Real Estate allows me to engage with that in a positive way that really helps people. It’s one of those industries where the more you put in, the more you get out. When I score an awesome deal for one of my clients, I get a winner’s high because I know I helped someone achieve their goal while also reaching mine.
